The Rationalist: My worldview going forward.

No matter how long you've been on social media, whether Twitter or Kik, someone will invariably ask you what your social worldview is. It just happens. Even if you wish it didn't, even if explaining it seems harder and harder, it does. So it's better just to deal with it and figure out the best way to handle the inevitable question that would come.

It used to be that I would call myself a feminist, full-stop. And for a while that seemed to be an acceptable answer to the question. But, as years went by and we moved from the 2nd wave to the 3rd and that 3rd-wave became increasingly tied in with political action, that became a harder and harder thing to deal with. I began to wonder what the feminism I grew up with, the feminism that dealt with real problems and figured out ways to solve them, had turned into while I wasn't looking.

A Return To Originality

If you remember that I write at all, you probably recall that I wrote for The Starting Five and the Wrestling Blog. While I hope that to be still true, the truth is that I need to get back into the business of just writing. And this blog, right here, is where I'm going to do that.

But it won't just be about sports. The reason for that is simple: because my life isn't just about sports.

 I will post about my life, my goals for it, and my search for someone to spend the rest of my life with.

This blog is called Dangerous O, for a very simple pair of reasons.

Firstly, it is a tribute to Toshiaki Kawada, the man who in every way is a representative of the sort of person I wish to be. Stoic, not given over to excessive emotionality, and highly skilled.

Secondly, it's because in many ways, the opinions that I post here, while not dangerous in the dictionary definition of the term, might very well be unpopular.

For instance, I no longer believe modern 3rd-wave feminism is a net force for good. I believe some of their tenets exist to serve the idea of narrowing sexuality further and further. I will explore this in an upcoming article.

My Personal White Whale: Revisiting The Best Way To Build A Light Heavyweight Division In The WWE

When i wrote this blogpost, I left it as it was. Namely, an idea for something cool that I thought you could do in the WWE if given enough time and inclination. But as I think about it more,  I realize that if I want a chance for younger fans to be dazzled by pro wrestling beyond what the 'E gives them I have to really sit down and try to make this work for both promotions. Because, if it's done right, what the WCW cruiserweight division meant to so many, and what Michinoku Pro and Dragon Gate mean to so many now, these two divisions can mean now if they're done right. That last sentence, though, is the important part. Because, for both the large company in Stamford, there are lots of things that need to be explained, and fixed, about the way that the juniors have been viewed during all of the previous times that they have tried this.

Now I know that this is my white whale, and i accept it. I am, if nothing else, a man who loves wrestling big and small, past and present, and I'd like very much to see something I know could work done the right way.

If, by some minor fluke, you listened to this you may have discovered that I sincerely love 1992-era WCW. And above all else, there was one reason I enjoyed that era of WCW (shortly before Bill Watts came in and it all went to hell in a handbasket). It was Flyin' Brian. And believe me when i tell you, because this is the absolute truth, we are never going to see his like again. No matter how hard you may want it, no matter how good it may be for wrestling as a whole, the cold hard fact is that it will never happen.

The Dream Match To End All Dream Matches, Or Discussion Of Them

(Full disclosure: I root passionately, unabashedly, and shamelessly for both KANA and her opponent in this match. I don't think that will change the way I write this match, but I needed to clear that up before I kept going in this piece.)

One of the beautiful things about this blog is that I get the chance to spitball ideas for this blog of mine on Twitter. For some reason, my mind and my heart has been drawing me to discuss dream matches. For whatever reason, they've always captivated me. The idea that 2 wrestlers who are clearly stars coming together to figure out which one of the 2 is the better has always interested me. And when I think about what dream matches are left, there's really one left. And it's so beautiful that I had to talk about it, write about it, and hopefully do my small part to make it happen.

The Daily Liger #1: An Introduction and a 20th Anniversary

Because I am the sort who likes to create new content for this blog, here we go. Every morning I'll post a match from the man, who for my money, is the best junior heavyweight to ever lace up a pair of boots.

And i know what you're thinking. We need a match here right? Easy. We'll start with the best match to really introduce this man to American fans. It's not nearly enough for it to be a good match. WHat you need is someone that the fans can get behind, someone that the fans can care about. This match is that time. Liger was coming in to WCW presented as the foreign menace, out to keep the World Light Heavyweight Championship from WCW's all-american phenom Flyin' Brian. Even now, 20 years after it happened, the match is still compelling. The way they structured it still works.

Music Videos: Aerial Pyrotechnics.

I am a huge fan of wrestling music videos as an art form. The trouble you have is when they somehow inform the way in which you actually watch wrestling, or what it is that you expect out of a particular worker. But just as an art form, they're glorious. So glorious in fact that i'm going to try and make this a new feature. So, please, journey with me into the world of music videos.
